In October black cats are sought out - but are also at a high risk for being abandoned, or abused. Many shelters will refuse to adopt out their black cats during October to prevent ill-intentions. It is also worth noting to keep your own black cat indoors a few days before and after Halloween to keep them safe from being stolen.
The fact is, black cats are the least likely to be adopted from shelters in general. They are thought to be bad luck or superstitious, and often end up being passed over. Animals with black fur, including dogs, also do not photograph well - so people looking at shelters online may overlook the pictures of these loving, potential pets.
Black cats are just as full of love and potential as any other, and a Los Angeles photographer has photographed them to showcase their cute personalities.
Below are a couple videos that also talk about black cats, and show just how amazing they can be.
If you are looking for a cat, remember to check your local shelter, and at least wait until October ends to bring home that adorable ball of midnight fur! :)
